Chair, JVL Boston

Diana Goldman is the Chair of Jewish Vegan Life Boston and is a vegan chef and plant-based culinary nutrition educator. She loves sharing health-promoting, nutrient-rich, and planet-friendly recipes through her site, Beantown Kitchen, and her award-winning cookbook, Plants For You.

Diana has received grant funding from Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation to teach healthy cooking classes in Boston. She has also collaborated with universities, corporations, and medical practices, including Harvard University, MIT, Unilever, Compass Group, eBay, and Samsung, to deliver evidence-based culinary nutrition programs.

Around 2013, Diana learned two things that led her to adopt a vegan diet: the livestock industry causes suffering to animals, and appropriately planned vegan diets, with B12 supplementation, can be healthy and nutritionally adequate across the life cycle. Knowing that she could thrive without eating animal foods, choosing a vegan diet became a way for her to reduce the suffering her food choices cause. This felt deeply consistent with her Jewish values, particularly tza’ar ba’alei chayim, the Jewish prohibition against causing unnecessary suffering to animals, and the broader Jewish call to act with compassion toward other living beings.

Diana received a B.S. in Nutrition Science from Cornell University and an Ed.M. from Harvard University.
