Jeffrey serves on the Jewish Vegan Life Pittsburgh Council and is a longtime advocate for the connection between Judaism, veganism, and social change. He has been vegan since 2009, when the Torah’s vision of a plant based diet in Genesis 1:29 first inspired him to reconsider his relationship with food and animals. He later embraced full veganism after reading Jonathan Safran Foer’s Eating Animals.
Jeffrey currently serves as a Senior Donor Advisor for PETA. Prior to joining PETA in 2024, he spent 12 years as Director of Jewish Veg, a national nonprofit dedicated to educating the Jewish community about the Torah based imperative for a vegan lifestyle. During that time, he worked alongside JVL’s Michael Gribov.
A communications and advocacy professional, Jeffrey previously served as Director of Community and Public Affairs at the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh. He also brings an extensive journalism background, having worked as a staff writer for the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, Toledo Blade, Las Vegas Review Journal, and other publications, and has contributed essays to four published books. He frequently writes about Judaism and veganism at The Alignment.
Jeffrey holds a Master’s degree in Public Management from Carnegie Mellon University. He lives in Pittsburgh with his vegan wife, Kathryn, and their vegan dog, Maizie.
