Hi there! My name is Madison, I am 30 years-old and live in Australia with my husband Jerome, my daughters Mia and Bella, our two naughty Chihuahuas and 12 rescue chickens. With the help of my little vegan family and furry/feathered friends, we bring to you Veggieful.com.au… a cute world filled with vegan recipes, family tips, information and an overload of cute cartoony goodness.
I have been vegan since 2010 and have never felt better. For a while now I have been fully raw which has been MIND-BLOWING! This would have been the biggest change for me and also the greatest change. Raw food makes me feel bright, logical, calm and sparkly and I urge you to look into this way of eating and the beginners way of “Raw til 4”.
I have always been totally obsessed with exercise which is why I got certified as a Les Mills group fitness and pilates instructor. I teach pump, grit, booty and pilates classes and it seriously is such a fun way to keep yourself motivated and connect with fitness-inspired peeps. I have been vegan throughout this whole process and find that it is the perfect way to feel good, move well and live healthily while training like an athlete!!
If you follow us on instagram you would know we live in what i like to call a “suburban farm”. We have a hugeee veggie garden, 12 rescue chickens, crazily big pizza oven, heaps of fruit trees and a MASSIVE timber solar-powered treehouse with a zip-line and rope bridge for the girls. Our house is actually the home i grew up in which means so much to us. Our goal was to always make the house sustainable, eco-friendly and to live off the land as much as we can. Go to our Farm section of the website to see photos!
We have 12 rescue chickens. We started with a few and we have been adopting and adopting. When we received these ex-battery ladies, they were bald, fearful and so sad. After a couple of months they were clingy, noisy and affectionate. Seriously, they follow us around, watch us through the windows, try to break into the house and always want to be held. I seriously can’t believe these were the chickens we first adopted. The ladies lay about 8 to 10 eggs a day which the girls sell out the front of our house in their little egg stall. Obviously we don’t eat the eggs but it is a great way to allow people to purchase ethical eggs and stops the money going towards supporting more battery egg farms. We love our chickens and we will rescue them forever!
I first created the concept of Veggieful when Jerome and I were sitting in our Accounting lecture at Uni. I should have realized at that point that an Accounting degree was not for me… but we still went through with it! I never expected to be sitting here, years later, a wedding photographer and vegan blogger! I was never really into cooking. Actually, I would do anything I could to avoid doing it. I would rather clean up afterwards than have to cook. I became vegan in 2010 after being vegetarian for a few weeks after being confronted with some horrific photos and videos about the animal product industries. I just knew I had to take the train to vegan-ville as the facts and truths were just too upsetting. I jumped on the train (the metaphorical vegan journey train of course), started cooking up a storm, began sharing the recipes with friends and family, bombarding the interweb with cute illustrations and never looked back! I am so glad that the accounting lecture was more boring than normal that day as I would have never scribbled the word “Veggieful” on my notepad and may have never discovered the world of Veggieful.com.au.
So what do I do besides create and share amazing life-changing dishes with all of you? Well, Jerome and I work together as wedding photographers for our business Bird and Boy Photography. This means that we are either out shooting weddings or at home with our little ladies. I am also teach Les Mills group fitness classes when our girls are at school. This is seriously fun and a great way to keep fit and happy. When we are not photographing weddings, teaching gym classes and making tasty food, we are with our girls, playing in our garden, eating fruit in the garden, playing with our chickens or doing some form of exercise.
I feel so honoured to be able to share our life with you and I am so glad that there is more and more interest in the vegan lifestyle. Veganism really is such a beneficial way of life and is also so delicious!
All in all, I absolutely adore running veggieful.com.au – I love being able to assist others with vegan dishes, chat about cooking and food and share the creations of others… Feel free to contact me to chit chat. Enjoy our blog 🙂
I had a completely vegan pregnancy with both Mia and Bella and continued to be vegan while breastfeeding. I receive so many questions on the subject of vegan pre-conception, pregnancy, breastfeeding and babies. To find out more, see our Vegan Baby page for more info!
