Rabbi Boris Dolin is a member of the JVL Spiritual Council for Jewish Vegan Life. He serves as rabbi of Congregation Dorshei Emet in Montreal. Since 2016, he has helped shape a Jewish community grounded in participation, music, learning, and ethical responsibility. He brings Torah into daily life and his approach makes Judaism accessible and lived, not only studied.
Rabbi Boris’s vegan journey began in childhood. He loved animals deeply and grew up surrounded by many pets. He became vegetarian before his bar mitzvah after recognizing a conflict between his love of animals and what he was eating, and later made the shift to veganism after deeper reflection on animal welfare and modern food systems.
Rabbi Boris holds a Master of Arts in Jewish Education from Jewish Theological Seminary. He studied informal and community education, and also worked at the Museum of Jewish Heritage – A Living Memorial to the Holocaust in New York.
He is a graduate of Reconstructionist Rabbinical College. His career has taken him across North America and Europe. He served as rabbi of Beit Polska, where he worked to rebuild Jewish life in Poland.
He also served communities in Oregon, Florida, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Philadelphia. His experience includes congregational leadership, chaplaincy, and university Jewish life. He has worked closely with children, families, and interfaith communities.
Rabbi Boris lives in Montreal with his wife Sarah Dolin. She is a Judaica artist and educator. They have three children named Elijah, Ezra, and Nehama.
He enjoys woodworking, knitting, calligraphy, guitar, and banjo. He is also an avid runner and competes regularly.
